The Hamilton County Loan Company, Inc., 206 South Washington Street, McLeansboro, IL was purchased in 1955 by William E. Shrode and J. Dee Crabtree from Bill Arnold and Ben Threlkeld. The company was incorporated in 1956. It was previously called the Hamilton County Finance, but after the purchase in 1955 the name was changed to Hamilton County Loan Company, Inc.

Irene Sharer was the secretary-bookkeeper for the former owners, but managed the new company until 1956. Charles Procter then became manager until 1962. Bob Pearce became manager until 1965. Ronald L. Webb then became manager until the present time. Irene Sharer was secretary bookkeeper from 1956 to 1970 and then worked part-time until 1977. Anita F. Phillips became secretary/bookeeper in 1970 and became assistant manager-bookkeeper in 1989 until her retirement on July 28, 2000. Janel A. Brown was hired in 1989 as secretary/loan officer and was recently promoted to manager. Jenny Flannigan was hired on February 15, 1999 to fill a new position as secretary/cashier due to an expansion of business and was recently promoted to assistant manager. Former part-time employees were Janet Vaupel, Susan Warren, Ellen Rubenacker, and Delois Grubb.

The Hamilton County Loan Company building was destroyed by fire on August 4, 1990. During the time of rebuilding the company was operated from a vacant home owned by Thomas Green, 209 South Washington Street, McLeansboro, IL. The new building was completed at the same location on January 10, 1991.
